Startup Community Supports Startup Weekend

Whether it’s Victor Hwang’s “The Rainforest” or Brad Feld’s “Startup Communities” the elements that make up a healthy startup ecosystem always include an array of partners from startups, investment, business and other organizations. We’re proud to be part of the community ourselves – and hope Startup Weekend Santa Fe not only provides a great experience for our participants, but also serves as a catalyst for further growth of our startup community regionally and beyond.

While we have a few sponsors more to confirm, we’d like to thank the following for their support:

Los Alamos Connect is the principal economic development investment of Los Alamos National Security, LLC and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). Our collection of investment, market research, technical assistance, and business coaching activities help businesses reach the next level of success and create an entrepreneurial culture in Northern New Mexico.

We work with entrepreneurs and companies in diverse industry sectors and at various stages of development. Our clients distinguish themselves through their willingness to try new approaches—to innovate—and to be leaders and trailblazers—pioneers.

Founded in 1999, the New Mexico Angels is a private membership organization for qualified angel investors. Our mission is to provide opportunities where our members can obtain outstanding financial returns by investing in seed or early-stage companies in New Mexico and the Southwest and accelerate them to market leadership. We are a not-for-profit 501(c)6 organization.

The RDC is a regional economic development organization for Northern New Mexico, focused on creating a diverse and sustainable economy. The RDC works collaboratively to create new jobs in the region by strengthening services to businesses and developing the infrastructure, public policy and workforce to support job growth.

Verge Fund is a highly motivated venture capital fund that invests in seed-stage, high-growth ventures right here in the Southwest. This partnership focuses on opportunities at the earliest stages of their development, even if the business plan hasn’t been fully built out. Sure, there’s a certain amount of ambiguity at this stage, but it is also the point at which the right experience generates the highest return. And the Principals at Verge Fund know a little something about that.

The New Mexico Technology Council is a member-driven association of businesses, organizations and tech professionals working together to promote the growth and success of New Mexico’s technology business sectors. We believe our technology community is the catalyst for inspiration and leadership that transforms our state into a world-center for business innovation, creative thinking, community involvement and educational support.

The Santa Fe Business Incubator (SFBI) is a not-for-profit economic development organization and an entrepreneurial leader in our community.  Since 1997, SFBI has provided a supportive environment for people who have the passion and tenacity to grow a business.  They have the know-how, the location and the network to help your business grow and succeed.

SFBI offers office, lab and light manufacturing space with affordable short-term leases in our 30,000 square foot facility; but they’re so much more than an office building.  They also provide entrepreneurial support services tailored to emerging companies in a wide range of industries, networking events, strong media relationships, access to the business and government communities, on-site business seminars and workshops, and a convenient location with ample parking on the south side of Santa Fe.  Perhaps most important is the entrepreneurial community they’ve created, from the network of client companies who support each other to the members of the local business community who volunteer their expertise to provide clients with free business and technical assistance.

Several community groups and other partners have assisted with outreach to participants and others with key roles in the event:
